Gymkhana FC (Football Club)

Indian Gymkhana Club (Football Section) was established in the early 1980’s. The club has a long and illustrious history and is renowned as being the longest standing Asian sports club within the west London area.

During the 1970’s a dynamic shift was taking place in terms of sports participation, many 2nd generation Asians having been raised and educated in the United Kingdom, started showing a passion for football, traditional sports such as hockey and cricket although popular began taking a back seat to the growing popularity of football.

Participating in football amongst friends provided a base where like minded individuals had an opportunity to play, socialise and share common experiences, like many football clubs , the next logical step was taking this unstructured football set up to something more structured. Key members of the group at the time decided to form a team that would participate in officially recognised leagues hence the foundation stone had been laid.
